What was the highlight of Arbatax Park Resort - Ville del Parco
Lovely hotel and resort, but very remote and quite expensive to eat/drink/transfer.
Lovely resort with nice pools and very picturesque beaches (these look photoshopped in the brochures/online, but really are not - it really is that beautiful here!. Very friendly staff. Good reception to door transport via buggy - but it's a vast resort, so needed. We went as 2 adults, but it was clear that they really look after kids here, with enthusiastic and many kids club staff.
It's a very long way away from either of the airports (2 hrs, 15 mins from Olbia), and although the complex is vast, there is very little else around, so you're fairly stuck unless you have hired a car (which is cheaper than paying for even a one way airport to hotel transfer). the porst area has a few restaurants and is around a 20 minute walk away, but if you're staying on resort and only booked bead and breakfast, the only options for dinner are the pizza restaurant or payingto eat at one of the resort buffets (which do not do a la carte, so you have to poay the full buffet price) - this varies form 25 to 45 euros per person, so soon ads up - it is far cheaper to go for DBB. Very few English there - we only met 2 others in a week - virtually all Italian, which is not a problem itself (they are lovely people), but all entertainment etc. is only in Italian, so inaccessible if you don't speak the language. Pricing is expensive, but not unexpected for Italy - in particular imported soft drinks at 5 euros per can eats into the budget (although the poolside shop sells these, straight from the fridge, at 3.20). We had hoped to see some history but, apart from the riche rocce, the resort is just too far away from this - a good 3 hrs each way to get to Alghero and back. Using the hotel transfers (form airport) is cheaper, but if flying to olbia, there are only 2 pickups per day each way, so we faced waiting 9 hours in the airport waiting for a pickup and felt we had no choice but to pay for a private transfer (240 euros one way - ouch!) - although we did use the hotel service to go back to the airport (60 euros per person one-way).
